Program Director for New Preventive Medicine Residency in Beautiful East Texas

Position Information

The Residency Program Director provides high quality, cost-effective, compassionate medical care and preventive medicine services to program clients. Participates in hospital committee functions and administrative duties as assigned. Provides education and training to residents, medical students, and other trainees. Participates in research and outreach activities. The program director has administrative responsibility for the general preventive medicine residency program and provides professional leadership for its activities including compliance with all applicable program requirements. The program director will be responsible for preparing preventive medicine residents with skills necessary for careers in the management and evaluation of population-based health programs. This is accomplished by ensuring residents successfully complete a course of graduate academic study as well as gain instruction in the specialty training of preventive medicine to achieve the ACGME milestones.

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

Must have responsibility, authority, and accountability for: administration and operations, teaching and scholarly activity; resident recruitment and selection, evaluation, promotion, and disciplinary action; supervision of residents; and resident education in the context of patient care.

Be a role model of professionalism.

Design and conduct the program consistent with the needs of the community, the mission of the institution and the residency program.

Administer and maintain a learning environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME Competency domains.

Recruits, engages, and/or sustains a qualified faculty for the General Preventive Medicine Residency as determined by available resources and with advice and consent of the appropriate University leadership.

Develops goals, objectives, and progress reports for the program as directed.

Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as University Policies and Procedures.

Conducts administrative duties and participates in committee functions and university governance as assigned.

Provides and administers teaching and education to residents, graduate students, staff and other participants in preventive medicine educational programs through lectures, didactics, and supervision in practicum settings.

Assists in the expansion of the patient base by participating in approved marketing activities.

Create a robust research program which focuses on preventive medicine, designing and implementing interventions, conducting evaluation, and engaging appropriate populations in well-designed participatory initiatives.  This includes the development of research and project proposals.

Assists in the expansion of education and training programs related to the discipline of General Preventive Medicine.
